Day-Trip Worthy

This mountain is absolutely great for a day trip from the city, but you have to get there early because by 2:00 it gets crowded and the trails are pretty worn out. Considering how close it is, it's not worth going for more than a day. If you're planning a longer trip, you might as well go farther north to some bigger mountains.

If it's your first time, Hunter has a great ski/snowboard school and a decent collection of greens. If you're advanced, Hunter West (the west part of the mountain..) is all blacks and doesn't get as crowded throughout the day.

They're really great with snowmaking, as soon as it hits 31 degrees, they turn on the machines.

It's a 2.5 hour drive from the city. What do you expect?

Go when there's snowfall the night before, and get there early. Unfortunately, even when there is overnight snow, and despite them being the "Snowmaking Capital of the Milky Way", some of the blues get shaved away by 2-3pm.
