been all over

I have skied all over the world from europe, to the North West and if you live in the east and want to be big mtn. skier this is the place to learn. If your a beginner whiteface will make you better. This mountain challenges the most advanced skiers on a daily basis. And if you can find them they have some of the best tree skiing in the east. They just don't like to advertise it. There's a reason whiteface holds world cup level events every year maybe you should find out why!

Ballin

Pretty good mountain. I grew up skiing in the east, so Whiteface wasn't too special. I go to college nearby, and the student-priced season passes are great... super cheap.

The mountain can get fairly icy mid-season, from mid January to the end of February. Then, the snow gets a little softer and the mountain is a blast. There's lots of variety in trails. They even have their own section of "backcountry" (emphasis on the quotations) but I've never seen it open. You do need a probe and a transmitter or a guide to go there, from what I've heard.

The park, like most terrain parks in the east, severely lacks in the pre-season, but once the park crew gets more snow they set up some nice hits. However, like I said before, the mountain can get pretty damn hard and icy so landings are really unforgiving.

Overall good mountain. I've been riding it for two years now and I'm pretty satisfied. The best times to go would be late February or March. Even April depending on the conditions.
