I learned to ski and ride at Mount Southington, though I never appreciated it that much until recently. Mount Southington is a great family ski area and a fantastic place to learn. I can't say enough about their ski school, and especially their children's program. The instructors are knowledgable, friendly, and go out of their way to make your time on the mountain enjoyable. My daugher's ski instructor remembered her name a week after the lesson and came over to say hi to her when we were in the lodge. I couldn't believe it! Aside from their dedicated instructors, Mount Southington has a lot to offer. They have a great race program, top notch snowmaking and grooming, and night-skiing. It is located minutes from the highway, so it is easy to get to. The terrain itself is not that challenging, and the chairlift ride takes twice as long as the trip down (longer, if you ride the triple), but it's still a great place to be if you have a few free hours in your day. The website doesn't do it justice, the food isn't that great, parking is horrible, but Mount Southington is by far the most playful and fun mountain in CT. |
