great place

This mountain is great - if it was bad I wouldn't ski there for 8 years. There is a great variety of slopes, plus Ripcord, which is basically cliff skiing in the east. If that isn't hard enough for you then try Plunge, the tree trail next to it. This place is really good!!

One of the best the East has to offer...

Obviously comapred to the West this mountain isn't all that great. But when limiting oneself to just the East coast this is one of the 2 or 3 best mountains there is.

There's a wide range of terrain for beginners and intermediates which makes it a great mountain for families, always uncrowded runs here and there, and lots of high-speed lifts -- especially compared to the 1970's.

Snow conditions vary from beautiful powder (occasionally) to hardpack with icy spots (more often).

when not crowded.....

Very wide variety intermediate to advanced terrain. Beginner areas are small and extremely crowded. During peak weekends from January through most of March, the mountain is extremely crowded as well and I would recommend staying away.

For the times that aren't crowded, Mount Snow offers many trails for experts. It has the best rated parks in the east (3 different terrain parks for beginners, intermediate, and advanced) as well as a mogul run with dedicated lift and speakers blaring metal off XM satellite radio (a definate experience).

Glades are also great when there is enough snow and the crowds havent found them yet.

Ripcord is probably their steepest and hardest trail, and is out of the way so you dont usually find too many beginners accidentally getting there.

this place is great... small resort feel w/ decent elevation and degree of difficulty. crowded, but there are always pockets of areas where u can find privacy. well groomed, good snow, suprising size.

best: 3 1/2 hours from new york

Fun and Easy

Mount Snow has tons of terrain for intermediate skiers and below. You'll get tired of it if you ski here too much and are above intermediate, but it's a fun mountain and well worth checking out.

Great intermediate mountain

Mount Snow is a great place for a weekend of blue trail skiing. It has a lot of blue terrain and some easy black terrain for those starting out on blacks. The Main face gets very crowded on weekends. Try the north face for some easy black trails. They are all about the same difficulty except for Ripcord which is much harder (double black). The Nitro chair is also a good place to get away from the crowds. Also a good place to stop for lunch at Carinthia.

If you like to go out after a day of skiing Mt. Snow is definitely not the place for you. The neighboring towns are quiet and there isn't the kind of nightlife you see at Killington for instance.

Great for beginners and intermediates

Mount Snow is a good mountain to go to if you just want to cruise. The terrain is mostly intermediate and not particularly interesting. The North Face, billed as the advanced section, definitely isn't as challenging as other advanced terrain in Vermont (with the notable exception of Ripcord).

Since Mt. Snow is an easy 4-hour drive from NYC and even closer to Boston, it gets quite crowded on pretty much any weekend all winter, and the mountain's not really big enough to get away from the lines.

All that said, Mt. Snow's a fine place to spend a weekend if you just want a laid-back few days of skiing.
